On July 16, 1945, Leonard Pepkowitz, a scientist involved in the Manhattan Project, put on some warm clothes and sat on a summit in Los Alamos, New Mexico waiting for the detonation of the Trinity Test. On July 16, 2010, during a different kind of war, Elana Mann (Pepkowitz’ granddaughter) will wear a dress and project her new video Can’t Afford the Freeway (2007-10) on the wall of a building in East Kensington, Philadelphia. All are welcome to drive-in/ride-in/walk-in. Additional videos will be screened by fellow PAH residents Kathryn Scanlan and Caleb J. Lyons

We are the Art is a documentation of "Retirement Bash" a performance project created between artist Elana Mann and students from the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA), Culver City High School, fall, 2009. Commissioned as part of the Community Outreach program of the Education Department at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).

Artist Bailout: Renegade Bounty Exchange is part performance event and part fundraiser, culminating in the presentation of a couple of micro-grants for two artist participants. Audience members will pay $10 at the door for a delicious vegetarian meal and a voting ballot ($5 for just a ballot). A group of 12 artists will present proposals/ performances and all those with ballots will vote on which two artists should split the money pot. 

“Our hope is that this will become an on-going support system for Los Angeles artists in a time when funding for the arts is vanishing. Together we can share our resources to support each other’s projects, both creatively and financially.”
