Elana Mann is an artist based in Los Angeles, CA, whose projects investigate the struggle between communication and silence.  Her artwork probes the theatrics of political, social and interpersonal exchange through a variety of mediums including performance, video, sound, drawing, installation, and directorial projects. Mann's work has been exhibited, screened, and performed nationally and internationally, including Apex Art, New York, NY, Galerie Califia, The Czech Republic, A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro, BR, The University of Dallas, Texas, WILDNESS, and Outpost for Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA. Mann recently directed and created artwork for "Performing Economies," a project at the Fellows of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and "Exchange Rate: 2008," an international performance exchange created in response to the 2008 US presidential election.  In 2012 Mann will co-chair with Audrey Chan The Feminist Art Project day of panels at the College Art Association in Los Angeles, CA. Mann is a recipient of the 2009 Visual Arts Fellowship through the California Community Foundation. Her projects have been reviewed in the Los Angeles Times, NPR, X-Tra Magazine, O Globo, El Pias and La Reuppublica. Mann is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Scripps College, Claremont, CA.  She has published two books, “Exchange Rate: 2008” (2009) and “GIVE IT TO ME, DO IT TO ME, MAKE ME…” (2007).
