DIS…MISS is Cypress College Art Gallery’s first group exhibition that centers on today’s evolving perceptions of gender and feminism. The exhibition includes nuanced imagery and videos, which confront persistent inequalities and stereotypes in our contemporary culture.
Thirty-Five of the artworks commissioned by Freewaves for the DIS…MISS project will be included in the exhibition. These artworks were created by leading Los Angeles artists including: April Bey, Buki Bodunrin, boychild, Cassils, Chan & Mann, Alexandra Grant, Micol Hebron, Thinh Nguyen, Roya Falahi, Mail Order Brides, Gloria Maria Guadalupe Moran, Meena Nanji, Caress Reeves, Shizu Saldamando, and others. DIS…MISS has been curated by Anne Bray, Director of Freewaves.
In addition to the exhibition, the Cypress College Gallery will host related events every Wednesday, from 2-3pm, throughout the run of the exhibition. These events will include workshops, performances, panel discussions, readings, and artist lectures. Students from a variety of programs, clubs, and departments across campus have created artworks and performative responses to the exhibition that will also be on view in the gallery; including Art, Art History, Dance, English, GENDERSMASH, Honors, Library Learning Resource Center, L.E.A.D., Media Arts Design, Photography, and Theater.

The Cypress College Gallery is open Monday-Thursday, 10am-2pm. Classes are encouraged to view the exhibition as a group and participate in the self-guided workshop and weekly events.
