7-9pm, October 16, Human Resources Los Angeles, CA
Organized by Wild Up, Elana Mann, and John Burtple
Join us for an evening of open scores—artist-made instructions, propositions, prompts, and possibilities for making performances together. The event will draw from score collections including the Democracy Sessions festival scorebooks, produced by Wild Up (2024, 2026), and Propositional Attitudes: What do we do now?, edited by John Burtle and Elana Mann (Golden Spike Press: 2018). These scores grasp democratic ideals through slipping fingers asking: Who is listening and who has the right to speak? What is (not) being heard? Some of these scores will be performed by Wild Up musicians and local artists. Others are written for audience members; what is traditionally a passive role will become active, unruly, feral. The scores performed and presented across the evening assemble something like a collective voice—not consensus, but radical harmonics, interpersonal exchange, and rehearsed tools for social organizing. We should try them.
