3pm Saturday April 25, 2026, Wende Museum, Culver City, CA, in collaboration with Sharon Chohi Kim
A performance of sculpture, voice, video, and sound using Cold War Era sound locators and satellites.
Whirlwinds, Tornadoes, Basement is a performance by Sharon Chohi Kim and Elana Mann about freedom of speech, surveillance, and resistance. The performance incorporates cold war communication technology from Southern California, including antique horns from the Rose Bowl Parade, the Jamesburg Earth Station Satellite Dish and the bunkers of Fort MacArthur. Whirlwinds, Tornadoes, Basement imagines alternative means of transmission/reception that are haptic, vulnerable, empathic, circumventing the rise of data collection, echo chambers, AI scrubbing and mass censorship.
