Digging a Hole and Sitting in It was a two hour performance that took place on the front lawn of California Institute of the Arts with five holes and five performers. Each performer was given a question to ponder aloud in a continuously repeating monologue for the duration of the piece: "How did I get here?", "How will I get out of here?", "What should I have for lunch?", "Who will come and help me?", and "Do I want to leave?".
