Publicity 1970/2008

Publicity 1970/2008 was a reinvention of a performance by Allan Kaprow, commissioned by California Institute of the Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Los Angeles in partnership with the exhibit "Allan Kaprow: Art as Life."

For Publicity 1970/2008 Elana Mann and Vincent Ramos, taught a class at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) on Kaprow's life and work, including readings, performances, lectures, discussions and visiting artist lectures from various artists that knew Kaprow personally (including Barbara T. Smith and Suzanne Lacy). Mann and Ramos then teamed up with CalArts faculty members David Bunn and Ellen Birell to work with a group of students in creating and producing a reinvention of Allan Kaprow's piece Publicity.  Publicity was originally performed in 1970 with CalArts students at Vasquez Rocks National Park, Agua Dolce, CA and the reinvention took place at the same location.
